    Background

A major operator in the Permian Basin was seeking composite plug options to compare drillout results from multiple plug providers. Drillout times and plugs tagged on depth were evaluated.

    Solution

NOV proposed the Setter Composite Frac Plug to meet the requirements of the operator. The compact design and all-composite construction allow for a quick mill time average of four minutes as well as less debris to remove from the wellbore. The castellated lower slips provide even slip distribution during setting and reduce incidences of plugs being not tagged during drillout.

    Result

Out of nine plug providers across multiple wells, the NOV Setter Composite Frac Plug had the quickest drill and wash times and 100% of Setter Frac Plugs were tagged on depth.

The Setter Frac Plugs were run and set with run speeds up to 500 ft/min and maximum pump rates of 12 bbl/min. The average drill time for 49 plugs was 4.1-min per plug.

NOV’s Setter fully composite frac plug continues to be the market leader in drill out time, as demonstrated by a major operator’s drill out trials in the Permian Basin. For more information on our complete portfolio of Frac Plugs, visit nov.com.
